Nearly one in five Americans are affected by mental health conditions every year, yet as a society we often do not understand or deal well with the impacts of these illnesses.

Call for Artists

Artists in the Pacific Northwest are invited to apply for the 2017 Northwest Fine Arts Competition. Our jurors this year are Lynn Schirmer, Chris Sheridan, and Kate Protage. Jurors will select art to be displayed in the Phinney Center Gallery from May 10 to June 9 with an opening reception on May 12 (coinciding with the neighborhood's "Big One" annual art walk). Application deadline is March 10. Learn more and apply online.

Creating a Welcoming Community

The past week has been a time of uncertainty and concern for many of our neighbors; it’s never been more important to come together and build relationships in our community. I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm the Phinney Neighborhood Association’s commitment to welcoming and engaging all members of our community. Everyone. Period.

We know that communities are strongest when they are open, inclusive, and compassionate, and we are committed to the PNA’s mission to “build, engage and support our diverse community through programs, services and activities that connect neighbors and foster civic engagement.”

As we work to figure out how to move forward we’ll be reaching out to other organizations and groups, looking at ways to partner to make our community a more welcoming place. In the meantime, here are several ways to show your support for, and help strengthen, our community:

The PNA had yard signs available for businesses and residents which say “no matter where you are from, we’re glad you’re our neighbor” in English, Spanish, and Arabic, which were all requested almost immediately. However, you can still download a printable window sign »

Celebrate Neighbor Day on February 11
Started over 20 years ago by longtime PNA member and Phinney Ridge resident Judith Wood, Seattle’s Neighbor Day is a special day set aside to reach out to neighbors, make new friends, and express thanks to those who help make your neighborhood a great place to live.

Volunteer
Help feed neighbors in need at the Hot Meal Program, help seniors age in their own homes at the PNA Village, and more.

What we all do each day makes a difference. Thank you for all that you do.
